In our increasingly digital society, physical environments made “intelligent” by advanced materials and embedded robotics will augment daily lives. The Clemson University Institute for Intelligent Materials, Systems and Environments [iMSE] focuses on the design and evaluation of intelligent built environments and their components. Partnering Architecture, Materials Science & Engineering, and Electrical & Computing Engineering, iMSE is responsive to the challenges and opportunities of human well-being, rapid urbanization, aging in place, disaster relief, smart sustainability, and increasingly digital homes, schools, workplaces, health services and cities. iMSE aspires to realize an ANIMATED ARCHITECTURE. An ANIMATED ARCHITECTURE behaves more like living things. It strives to accommodate the dynamic and wide-ranging desires and concerns associated with the built and natural environments for clients and territories often overlooked by designers. Participants in iMSE strive to cultivate a productive, satisfying and dynamic equilibrium across people, nature and artifice. Visit | ARCHIBOTS | a workshop on architectural robotics at ubicomp '09 |
